Winter Park Hotels

In the early 1920’s, a local valley merchant name “Doc” Graves set his sight on a location nestled on the western slope of the Continental Divide. Typically composed of workers involved in the construction of the nearby Moffat Tunnel, Graves started his development with 26 tourist cabins, a café and service station. First calling his village Hideaway Park, Graves had the foresight to power his buildings by a water wheel he installed at the nearby Vasquez Creek. In 1939 the Winter Park Ski Resort opened and the rest is history.

Just a 90-minute drive west of Denver’s city limits, Winter Park, Colorado is one of the nation’s premiere winter sport destinations. Widely recognized for its world-class skiing, Winter Park hotels enjoy thousands of visitors each year who enjoy plush accommodations and local hospitality that is uniquely inviting. Composed of three interconnected peaks – Winter Park, Mary Jane and Vasquez Ridge – skiers and snowboarders alike hit the slopes and take in the cool, crisp mountain air. Others enjoy dogsled rides or cross-country skiing, or maybe just warm up by an inviting fire with a hot cup of cocoa.

Much due to its spectacular location and winter sport notoriety, Winter Park has evolved into a year-round attraction as well. With miles of hiking trails winding through nature preserves, visitors can explore the Rockies in an uninhibited, intimate manner. Others hit the paths on mountain bike or can even take a guided tour on horseback. If you’re up to it, there are even hot air balloon rides available. Sportsmen will be excited to hear that Winter Park has excellent fly-fishing opportunities in its numerous crystal clear mountain springs. The town center also has much to offer. Specialty shops line the streets of Winter Park with windows and display cases filled with handcrafted southwestern jewelry and one-of-a-kind Native American artworks. Local festivals and outdoor concerts for everyone to enjoy are also a common occurrence in Winter Park – including the Annual Snow Mountain Disc Golf tournament.

Whether it’s to avoid the hustle and congestion found in the city, or merely to seek a little bit of fun, it’s no doubt Winter Park probably has what visitors are after. Numerous visitors flock each year to Winter Park hotels and enjoy lasting experiences in the town’s charming setting. From skiing to hiking, hot air balloons to horseback, Winter Park truly is a unique mountain destination that the entire family is sure to enjoy.
