LoDo - (Lower Downtown Denver) |
|||||||
LoDo stands for Lower Downtown and is the neighborhood located on the west side of downtown and runs generally from 14th street on the south to 20th street on the north, from Larimer street on the east, to Wynkoop street to the west. Lower downtown is rich in LoDo history, but in the 1970’s had pretty much become an abandoned area of old warehouses, defunct factories, the old Union train station, and a few older office buildings. It was skid row. Today this area is recognized as the Lower Downtown Historic District which protects much of the architecture from Denver’s earliest history. LoDo has become gentrified and has a large number of loft type residential housing, offices, shops and restaurants. The newer Coors Field baseball stadium was built on the north end of LoDo. Union Station on the western edge of LoDo is slated to be torn down and redeveloped into a completely new multimodal transportation center. This should impact the LoDo area and make it even more popular as a location to live and to access all that Denver has to offer. The new Union Station Redevelopment will integrate the new Denver light rail system. This will make LoDo accessible from all over the city, or LoDo residents to the outlying areas serviced by the new light rail system. If you like a downtown location, the nightlife and loft living, this is the area to see.
