Basking Ridge NJ Real Estate

Merely 40 miles west of New York City, those who are looking for a luxurious setting away from the hustle and congestion of Manhattan should go no further than the community of Basking Ridge New Jersey. An upscale setting, Basking Ridge is located in Somerset Hills, an unincorporated portion of Bernards Township. Making up a population of 24,000 people, Basking Ridge is a peaceful escape in one of the most premiere areas to call home in all of north central New Jersey. Basking Ridge NJ real estate is widely regarded as an exclusive area, and those fortunate enough to live there rarely leave.

Though widely known for its white-collar residences, Basking Ridge is also home to many historic landmarks and interesting sites. One of the most notable can be found in the graveyard of the Presbyterian Church where one can find the Old Oak Tree. It is in this graveyard that it is believed that General George Washington captured his thoughts in the late 1770’s next to a 600-year-old white oak. The Presbyterian Church is widely recognized as well considering it was built in 1839 and is listed on the New Jersey and National Register of Historic Places. The Van Dorn Mill has an interesting story – set in Basking Ridge, the mill was rebuilt in 1843 to be the finest stone structure in all of New Jersey. Using thousands of stones from nearby farm hedgerows, the cost of the project cost a whopping $5,000 – quite a notable sum in those days. Despite the price of the rebuilt mill, it seemingly paid itself off with in the span of a year. Originally built as the Basking Ridge Classical School, the Brick Academy was built to be a place to prepare young men for the College of New Jersey, or more notably known today as Princeton. The building had other uses as well, including a town hall, union hall and historic museum.

Along with its historic sites, Basking Ridge is home to various new industry as well. The most notable is the headquarters for one of the most successful telecommunications companies in the world, Verizon Wireless. Along with its close proximity to work, many of the residents surely take full advantage of the numerous golf courses and country clubs found in the surrounding Somerset Hills area.

Whether it’s the allure of the historic backdrop or simply for the taste of luxury, there’s no doubt that Basking Ridge can fill the need for both. If you’re looking for a unique luxury experience in a historic community, then a piece of Basking Ridge NJ real estate might just be the answer.
